Syahadah Sentence – First Part

The most important thing for a moslem is Syahadah sentence. Any mistakes in interpreting and believing the sentence will impact on further mistakes in the understanding and perspectives. So, then we all as moslem must not make mistake in expressing, interpreting, understanding and believing the sentence of Syahadah.

Today, apparently we found so many mistakes amongst moslem people in expressing, interpreting, understanding and believing this Syahadah sentence. The impact of this mistakes can be easily predicted that today there are a lot of distortions and mistakes in understanding and believing.

As one of the example here is whenever we hear the sessions of the preachers during Friday praying or during recitations. The preachers are oftenly adding the Syahadah sentence so then it will be as follow:

أشـــهد أن لا إلـﮧ إلاّ اللّـﮧ و أشـــهد أنّ مـــحمّدا عبده و رســـولـﮧ
‘Asyhadu an laa ilaaha illallāh wa asyhadu anna Muhammad Abduhu wa Rasuuluhu.’
Which means: “I bear witness that there is no god except Allah, And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger.”

My brothers and sisters, please be aware that the sentence above is not the Syahadah sentence. It is because there had been additional words in the sentence of ‘wa asyhadu anna Muhammad Abduhu wa Rasuuluhu’, so then it is not a Syahadah sentence as taught by Gabriel the angel to Muhammad saw. The sentence above is a Thayibah sentence (Good Sentence), not a Syahadah sentence.

The true Syahadah sentence is as follow:

أشهد أن لا اله الا الله وأشهد ان محمد رسول الله
‘Asyhadu an laa ilaaha illallāh wa asyhadu anna Muhammad Rasuulullah.’
Which means: “Your Servant bears witness that there is no god except Allah, And Your servant bears witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”

The impact of mistakes in expressing, mistakes in interpreting and mistakes in understanding the Syahadah sentence, then it will create further mistakes in the conception, mistakes in the understanding and mistakes in the faith which finally it will widen the separation of the True and False. The false understanding will then make someone or some moslem people to fall on a deviant sect, extreme and radical sect or free liberalism sect.

So this is the article which was intended so the moslem people has to be carefull in stating and believing the Syahadah sentence. There were a lot of additional words had been added so it seems like a Syahadah sentence, but in fact it is not a Syahadah sentence. The true Syahadah sentence had been already standardized by Allah swt. We can not alter or add the sentence based on our mind and understanding.

Insha Allah at the next article about Syahadah sentence we will examine into deeper understanding and its implication whenever there were a mistake in expressing, interpreting, understanding and believing the Syahadah sentence. (AK/NJ/ST)
