Syahadah Sentence – Second Part

The first point in practicing Islamic religion is the Syahadah sentence. So then mistake in undeerstanding and believing the Syahadah sentence will impact to further mistakes in practicing the Islamic religion. Because the Syahadah sentence is the very first begining.

After some scholar graduated from the middle east come back to this country, many of moslem people then interrested to absorb their new understanding which was coming from the middle east. Eventhough that in fact their understanding might be incorrect. Even we can find that there are a lot of incorrect understanding inside. Including also incorrect understanding in this Syahadah sentence.

As moslem people, to whom we must address when we witnessing? As for the understanding of most of the people from middle east, they thought that we must be witnessing in front of the other people. Be witnessing in front of the other persons. So, then in making Syahadah statement they are using sentences and terms which were used to talk with other persons. So no wonder then in making statement of Syahadah, they are using the sentence of ‘I bear witness’. It is because that those words were intended to be said towards other people, towards other persons.

أشهد أن لا اله الا الله وأشهد ان محمد رسول الله
‘Asyhadu an laa ilaaha illallāh wa asyhadu anna Muhammad Rasuulullah.’
Which means: “I bear witness that there is no god except Allah, And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger.”

Because of bearing witness in front of other persons, then they use the sentence of ‘I bear witness’. So, where does Allah? They do not realize of being in front of Allah, and Allah is only exist in their mind only. This was the point of where the incorrect understanding is begin.

So, as moslem people, to whom we must address when we witnessing? The right answer is we must bear witness toward of Allah swt, so it shall not toward the other people.

At ancient time, Rasulullah saw and his followers were bearing witness toward Allah swt, not toward the other people. And so as every prophet and messenger previously, they were all bearing witness toward Allah swt, not toward the other people. As also the prophet Hud as, he beard witness of Syahadah toward Allah swt.

“We only say that some of our gods had possessed you with evil.” He said, “Indeed, I bear withness to Allah, and witness [to yourselves] that i am free from whatever you associate with Allah.” (QS 11:54)

Because of bearing witness to Allah swt, then the habit, attitude, manner and ethics when saying the witness sentence will also different. Fully realizing the level and position of ourselves in front of the Almighty. So, this is below the Syahadah sentence will be stated in front of Allah swt:

أشهد أن لا اله الا الله وأشهد ان محمد رسول الله
‘Asyhadu an laa ilaaha illallāh wa asyhadu anna Muhammad Rasuulullah.’
Which means: “Your Servant bears witness that there is no god except Allah, And Your servant bears witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”

So, in this case, Allah swt is really exist in front of us, really being positioned as the Almighty. Not just a mere of existing within the mind. This is a straight aqidah and tawheed, that confirming the existence of Allah swt.

So, those are the article about the incorrect understandings. Starting from such mistakes, then it grows up to become mistakes in the tawheed and faith. They think that they have been fully understand and know, not needed any intevene from Allah any more, so then with their ingenuinity they quoted from verses and making interpretation so then they created their concept of tawheed.

Tawheed Rubbubiyah, tawheen Uluhiyan and tawheed Asma wa Shifat, those are the result of their interpretation and quoting some verses to form their tawheed concept. Insha Allah on next article we will dig some more discussion in revealing the incorrect understanding of this tawheed concept and its distortion as a result of the mistakes.

May Allah swt always kept us away from such incorrect aqidah and tawheed, so we always be at the straight path. Straight be the aqidah, straight be the moral and behaviour, and also straight be the characters. (AK/ST)
