Polygamy According to Tawheed

Polygamy according to Tawheed teachings is allowed, but this teaching also accentuates the principle of noble deeds of a person to restrict themselves from releasing their lust uncontrolable. That was what was taught by our guru before.

As of today, there had been an attempt to upside down the true teaching of tawheed related with this polygamy. Many of moslem people had been suggested to have wifes of more than one. The proposition which was used is based on the Qoran verse as below.

وَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَلَّا تُقْسِطُوا فِي الْيَتَامَىٰ فَانْكِحُوا مَا طَابَ لَكُمْ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ مَثْنَىٰ وَثُلَاثَ وَرُبَاعَ ۖ
فَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَلَّا تَعْدِلُوا فَوَاحِدَةً أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ أَدْنَىٰ أَلَّا تَعُولُوا
“And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphan girls, then marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four. But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one or those your right hand possesses. That is more suitable that you may not incline [to injustice].” (QS 4:3)

At the era before Islam was born in Arab, it was already become a habit that man has many wives in large quantity. Added with their mistress and slave, without any rules to limit its quantity.

Then, Allah swt put quantity limitation for such matter, in order to decrease the quantity of their wives to only four as maximum, or even if they are afraid to hurt the feeling of the woman, then one wive is enough.

As of today, there had been several ustadz who turn back the spirit of the above Qoran verse with suggesting the moslem people to have more wives. Initially, Allah swt wants the other way that quantity of wives shall be decreased, or if it worried of hurting woman’s feeling than one wive is enough.

As for the believer of the Tawheed teaching and the ones who has clear mind, then they will follow what had been taught by Allah swt to decrease the quantity of their wives or even one is enough. With doing so, then they will keep themselves away from hurting the woman’s feeling and from venting their lust uncontrolable.

But, as for the ones who like to vent their lust, then they tend to keep their mind on the quantity numbers of wives which are allowed according to the Qoran verse above, without being aware of the true essence and spirit of the verse. (AK/ST)
